How Runes and Reiki Work Together in My Practice

“What happens when ancient symbols meet universal energy?”
The possibilities are endless! When I first started delving into my spirituality, using runes was my first modality - and it certainly stuck. Using runes helps me to interpret messages, think about how things are unfolding, and also to lend more energy into my practice. Using runes and Reiki together amplifies the activation of healing energy, meaning, and can help us to feel more aligned with the energy of the rune. Just as an example of how this works is when I am setting a grounding practice and the chosen energy for our practice is renewal, I will use the Isa rune while grounding our energy, as it promotes stillness and reflection.
Whether you are someone who is rune-curious or new to Reiki, there’s something for everyone. Just think of it as an additional favourite topping on your healing sundae. The cherry on top so to speak!
A Brief Look at Runes and Reiki
Reiki: Energy in Flow
Reiki is a Japanese healing practice that channels universal life force energy—what’s known as ki in Japanese, chi in Chinese, or prana in Sanskrit. It’s gentle, non-invasive, and deeply intuitive. Practitioners use their hands to guide energy where it’s needed, helping to clear blockages, restore balance, and support the body’s natural healing process.
For me, Reiki is like water—it flows, soothes, and adapts. Whether someone is seeking emotional relief, physical grounding, or spiritual clarity, Reiki meets them where they are.
Runes: Symbols with Spirit
Runes come from the ancient Norse and Germanic traditions. They were originally part of an alphabet called the Elder Futhark, but they were always more than letters—they were sacred symbols used for magic, divination, storytelling, and protection. Each rune carries its own energetic signature and deeper meaning.
In my practice, I don’t use runes just for prediction—I work with them as living allies. They help clarify intention, strengthen energetic focus, and invite archetypal wisdom into the healing space. Some runes call in courage or release grief; others support transformation, protection, or inner truth.
Why I Combine Them
At first glance, runes and Reiki might seem like two very different practices—one rooted in Northern European mysticism, the other in Japanese energy healing. But in my experience, they speak the same language: the language of energy, symbols, and intention.
I began working with Reiki as a way to offer healing in a gentle, adaptable way—something that could meet people wherever they were in their journey. As my practice deepened, I found myself called back to the runes I had worked with for years in my personal spiritual path. They kept showing up—in meditations, in dreams, in sessions with clients. It was like they were asking to be part of the process.
Combining them felt natural.
Reiki opens the space and helps us soften into stillness. Runes bring clarity and direction—like a compass for the healing that wants to unfold. Where Reiki is flow, runes are focus. One clears the path; the other shows us where we’re going.
Together, they create a healing experience that’s both intuitive and intentional. It’s not just about feeling better in the moment—it’s about anchoring deeper meaning and personal power into your healing journey.
How They Work Together in a Session
When you come to a Raido Reiki session, you’re not just receiving Reiki—you’re stepping into a space that’s been thoughtfully crafted for deep energetic work, intuitive reflection, and personal meaning.
Here’s how I often weave runes and Reiki together:
Energetic Intention-Setting with Runes At the beginning of a session, we may draw a rune (or let one choose you) to guide the healing. This rune acts as a mirror and messenger—highlighting themes you might be moving through like courage, release, boundaries, or transformation. It helps us set a focus for your healing time together. I may also choose runes that I feel resonate and that align with the energy of the session.
Rune Placement on the Body or in the Aura Sometimes I’ll place physical rune stones on or near the body—similar to how some practitioners use crystals. Other times, I may draw a rune symbol energetically with my hand above a chakra or energy center, infusing it with Reiki to amplify the intention.
Using Rune Energy to Support Reiki Flow Runes can serve as energetic tools to help guide the Reiki energy—especially if we’re focusing on something like clearing old patterns, grounding, or calling in personal power. It’s less about "doing" and more about listening—letting the runes reveal what’s ready to shift, and letting Reiki hold space for that shift to happen gently.
Take-Home Integration Tools After the session, you may receive a journaling prompt, a rune meaning card, or even a small charm bag or reiki-infused essential oil to carry that healing intention forward. It’s my way of helping you keep the energy moving—not just in the session, but in your everyday life.
Every session is different because every person is different. Some days, the runes lead. Other days, Reiki simply flows quietly and deeply. I follow the energy and your comfort—nothing is ever forced.
What Clients Experience
Every session is unique, but there are common threads I’ve seen again and again—especially when Reiki and runes come together.
A client might come in feeling scattered or emotionally heavy, unsure of what exactly they need but knowing they want support. After a grounding breath and brief check-in, we might draw a rune that speaks to something just beneath the surface—like Uruz, for strength and inner resilience, or Laguz, for emotional flow and release. Often, the rune feels uncannily relevant, like it’s naming something the client hadn’t yet found words for.
As Reiki begins, the energy starts to soften the nervous system. Shoulders relax. Breath deepens. With the rune in mind, I may place the corresponding stone near the solar plexus or draw its symbol over the heart with Reiki-charged intention. Clients often describe sensations like warmth, lightness, or a sense of release—sometimes even tears, laughter, or deep calm.
By the end of the session, the energy often feels clearer—like fog lifting. Clients leave not only feeling more relaxed, but with something tangible to hold onto: a word, a symbol, a message. Something to carry into the rest of their day.
Many clients tell me it feels like receiving a story and a healing in the same breath.
A Living Practice, Rooted in Intuition
For me, the fusion of runes and Reiki isn’t a fixed method—it’s a living, evolving practice. One that honours both tradition and personal truth. It’s rooted in deep respect for the origins of these tools, and guided by intuition, relationship, and care.
I don’t believe healing should feel clinical or one-size-fits-all. It should feel like coming home to yourself—gently, safely, and with intention.
So whether you're craving clarity, release, grounding, or a spark of empowerment, I’m here to hold space with you.
